That said, we found ourselves struggling to complete our first Oliver + S Firefly Jacket a few Friday nights ago....for a birthday present....at a party....the next morning! This was highly stressful, since we seldom - if ever - sew for others. In fact, we barely made the deadline - rinsing out the garment a bit past midnight, and ironing it the next morning (*and no, it wasn't our finest ironing moment as you can see through the pictures....but, we promise it was indeed ironed).

Hindsight tells us, though, that we should have followed the instructions and used ELASTIC CORDING....instead of ELASTIC THREAD! Here's hoping it will survive the wear and tear of an independent two year old...

Pattern: Oliver + S Firefly Jacket {size 18-24 months}
Fabrics: FreeSpirit/Westminster Fibers - La Dee Dah, Fiddlesticks in Coral;
Coral corduroy {both purchased at TJ's Fabrics during our road trip}
Coral corduroy {both purchased at TJ's Fabrics during our road trip}
Buttons: 2 3/4 inch covered buttons; 2 3/4 inch buttons {found in a Joann's button box}
It is exciting to sew for a child who can 'rock' the louder prints and colors.... a little out of our typical, comfort zone, BUT fun to play with various combinations for a sweet two year old! Happy, happy birthday little Miss LE!
And while we are on the subject of oliver + s . . .have you seen the latest two patterns {roller skate dress + tunic pattern and pinwheel tunic + slip dress pattern} in the Spring/Summer collection? If you haven't, you MUST check them out! They will be on sale beginning March 1st! And, yes, we must ask - do you prefer one over the other? If so...which one gets yourmoney vote?

The colors in that jacket are great! And my vote goes to the pinwheel tunic. They both look adorable :)
ReplyDeleteLove the coral in the jacket. It is fun to sew for a variety of people sometimes... you end up putting stuff together you never would have otherwise. =) I just checked out the newest oliver+s patterns, and I love that pinwheel tunic/ slip dress. It has such a fun hem!
ReplyDeleteThis IS out of your signature style zone and glad you ventured because the jacket looks terrific!
ReplyDeleteWow! It's lovely! Fun and spunky. Oh, and I'm loving the pinwheel dress from Oliver + S.
ReplyDeleteLove this! It's good to experiment outside of your usual comfort zone.:)
ReplyDeleteI love both new O+S patterns equally (and will be purchasing both) but the Roller Skate dress appeals to all 3 of my girls for a change so it'll get a lot of use!
I've had my eye on that pattern for a while. I saw the Roller Skate dress on pinterest yesterday and it's awesome but I think I'm holding out for the pinwheel dress. :)
ReplyDeleteI saw the roller skate dress yesterday and put it on my list! I like your bright fabric choices here, glad you got it done by your deadline!
ReplyDeleteI love this jacket! Thank you so much for sharing at Friday Favs Party.

love the jacket and and the bolder colors/pattern you chose. I was scrolling through the link up party and stopped on this one immediately (hahah, told you I could pick your creations out of a crowd). Just one more time where I sigh and say I really NEED to get some O&S patterns.
ReplyDeleteYou're kidding??? You picked us out from the linky party with this one? SHOCKED! Yes, you should definitely buy an O+S pattern. They never disappoint !!!
DeleteThanks all for those sweet remarks. As for us, we'll be purchasing both the roller skate and pinwheel dresses. Both have such possibilities - for a large age range!! First we liked the roller skate one.....then saw the spaghetti strap pinwheel dress and fell in love with that as well.
ReplyDeleteVery cute! And I love the fabric selection. Great to see you branching out, even though it still falls in your classic simple yet elegant style that you guys do so well!
ReplyDeleteI JUST bought this pattern the other day, so it's fun to see how cute it sewed up for you! Good tip on the elastic cording, too!
