What better way to end 2012 than with a road trip to.......wait for it......wait for it......a fabric store!?!?!??! YES! We took our 2nd annual trip to the small town of Opp - to T&C Pharmacy and Fabrics. It was completely justified too....unbelievably, we had used all but one of the fabric purchases from our 1st annual trip. We intended to kidnap our Jedi Master along the way, however, a family illness sadly prohibited her making the trek with us!
We prepare as best we can for trips like this one. Over Christmas, we made our list and checked it twice. Seriously! We made a LIST....of patterns to sew for each niece. And, as part of our Christmas gifts from the nieces' family, we received gift cards to assist in our sewing obsession for the girls! While PR&P season 6 needed items were tossed around, our primary focus was on the girls' spring / summer garments.Upon arriving, we perused the fabric selection - walking the aisles to get a 'feel' for the task at hand. Feel free to drool with us on this virtual tour. Pictures don't do this store justice....there is no way to truly capture the beauty {and organization} of TJ's fabric selection!
Chevrons and Dots were flying off the shelves when we were there, primarily due to internet sales.

It seemed as if they had everything....even fake 'textured' fabric - having a woven appearance, but being cotton. You have to feel it to believe it!
And don't forget the boys.....a whole aisle devoted to snakes, snails, and puppy dog tails!!
Then, it was time to get down to business! We shopped and shopped and shopped and shopped. TJ, Savannah, and the super-friendly
"Real food" wasn't an option -- the day was completely set aside for FABRIC! Instead, we began the day with Chick-fil-a and ended it with Burger King....both while driving down the road.
As far as our purchases? Check these beauties out!! They won't be touched for some time, but we do indeed have a plan for most of them and are excited to share them with you as warm weather comes our way!
Each is bagged and tagged (we're a bit obsessive like that....), and stored away for future sewing.

And, if you are an avid fabric collector shopper, we strongly encourage you to check TJ's Fabrics out...online, on facebook, on pinterest, or on a road trip (a perfect 'pit stop' on one's way to the beach)! It is always worth our time....we come away with glorious fabrics, and a plethora of information from the sweet ladies that work there. Oh.....and as a side note, if you are a subscriber of Sew Beautiful, look for a feature on their store in an upcoming 2013 spring edition!
Where is your go-to fabric source? Online? Brick and mortar? We are always interested in discovering other potential road trips!

OH MY!!! I don't know what I'd do if I ever walked into a store like that...I think they'd have to kick me out at closing time because I wouldn't want to leave!! You lucky ladies...I'm envious, and excited to see what you make! :)
ReplyDeleteThey are soooo nice, they'd probably not kick you out!!!! It's so nice to talk to others that share a love for sewing (and fabrics)....all while being surrounded by wonderful fabric.
DeleteI'm so lucky! My mom lives in Opp, so I get to shop at this beautiful little gem often. Isn't it amazing?
ReplyDeleteYes you are.... And yes, it is!
DeleteI was drooling over those pictures! How I wish we had been able to stop!!!! I still haven't made it up to Textiles yet. Waiting till the kids are back in school. This place looks so organized and puts Textiles to shame. Can't wait to see what you make out of all that lovely goodness
ReplyDeleteThere's always a next time!!! Organization is definitely a strength of TJ's.... Maybe we can meet up at Textiles over the summer! !!
DeleteThat store is just beautiful! I've never had a chance to visit a store dedicated to just fabric... the biggest I've been to is Joann's! I would have a really hard time deciding what to buy. =)
ReplyDeleteReally excited to see what you make with the lovely fabrics. =)
It's funny...we look back at the pictures and comment: I didn't see THAT fabric!!! Or, we scan the pics looking for fabric bolts we actually purchased from, and can't find them. It is a fun fun fun place to go. Don't sell Joann's short though. We love it too!
ReplyDeleteOooooooh this is amazing!!! Pretty sure this would be a good reason to travel over from Scotland!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow.
ReplyDeleteWow! I agree! This store is well worth the travelling!
ReplyDeleteMy local shop is about 20 min drive and carries only apparel fabric (plus a few yards of quilting fabric at very expensive prices).
I mostly resource to online shops for quilting fabric - which is okay to be honest, as I'm not an impulse buyer and I would be "lost" in that wonderfull "sea" of fabric. Too much temptation :)
Also, I am so amazed with all your prep and planning - I can't wait to see all the lovely garments you have planned :)
